Divine Service explains what worship is all about: God surprisingly comes to His people to serve them. We don't expect this, for who is the greater, God! He however shows His Father's heart. when on the night when He was betrayed He washed the disciples' feet (John 13:1-7). This is who God is, He places the needs of us ahead of His very own. God serving us, this is Divine Service.
With what does He serve to us? He gave His Son as a blood payment for sinners' sins. He made this purchase on the Cross nearly two thousand years ago. He now in real time distributes what He won on the Cross through His preached and read Word, and through the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. The Holy Spirit speaks to the gathered assembly, He speaks of Christ and He brings Christ to bear upon the congregation. The Means of Grace--His Word and the Sacraments--are His healing balm for both soul and body.
There's much more of course but come learn with us. Join the gathered pilgrims heading toward heaven, led by Christ Himself. We're attempting to pull everyone with us, to join the festive throng.
All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. (Psalm 86:9-10)
