Mission trip is eye-opening experience for TLS faculty members

Andrea Hussong had never been out of the country before this past month.

The experience – it was eye-opening.

“I have been changed by this experience, and I want others to have the opportunity to serve and witness others serving,” shared Mrs. Hussong, who was one of three Trinity teachers who visited the Dominican Republic a couple of weeks ago. “It opens your eyes to ways we can serve at home and abroad.”

Andrea Hussong, Jill Schmitzer and Rachel Meyer spent time at a Lutheran School in Palmar, Dominican Republic, teaching and learning.

“We were all curious about each other and what teaching is like in our own schools,” shared Mrs. Hussong, who teaches first grade at Trinity. “We got to hear about their struggles and successes.”

Mrs. Schmitzer, who teaches kindergarten at Trinity, agreed.

“It was so helpful to meet in person with the teachers and share experiences and ideas and learn that many of the
challenges are the same for all of us,” shared Mrs. Schmitzer.

In addition to spending time in the school, the trio of Trinity teachers connected with missionaries.

“It was fun to put faces with names, but even more was to listen to their stories, and how God called them,” shared Mrs. Hussong. “We learned so much, and heard how these selfless people serve the Lord.”

The trio of Trinity teachers will be sharing much more about their experience in the Dominican Republic on April 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
